You could get a discount on your vehicle's maintenance costs. AAA conducted a study and found that the average cost of maintenance and repairs per mile for 2019 was 8.9% higher than in 2018. The highest costs were borne by the owners of SUVs and trucks, which are becoming more popular.

There are many options for what is included in these complimentary maintenance programs. While some programs only cover one visit, others include several oil changes and tire rotations that will be repeated over the course of many years. To be certain what you're getting, or even if it is free, you need to carefully read the details of the vehicle. Some makers only offer free care to customers in specific markets or regions. Below is a list of automakers' free services. Some dealers may also offer their own local deals. Some manufacturers, like Mercedes-Benz, offer pre-paid plans which will cover all scheduled services for a selection of years at a cost that you can add to the vehicle's price.

These are the brands that offer complimentary scheduled maintenance on their 2021 vehicles (exclusions: Exotic and high-end brands).

Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo will cover one scheduled maintenance visit for any Giulia sedan or Stelvio SUV. This applies only to the first year. The offer does not cover the 4C Spider sports car.

Mini

BMW Group's Mini and BMW brands provide three years of maintenance, or 36,000 miles, for 2021 vehicles. This is for the original purchaser only.

Cadillacs, Chevrolets, Buicks, and GMC

All 2021 GM cars manufactured by the four U.S. brands include a free scheduled maintenance visit for the first year.

Ford and Lincoln

Ford Motor brand loyalty programs offer non-traditional rewards plans that are linked to their apps. These plans, similar to retail loyalty programs, provide a free maintenance plan. Points can be earned for vehicle purchases as well as another dealership spending. The initial reward points are available to all buyers of certified pre-owned or new vehicles. They can then choose to receive maintenance free of charge. Fords have different initial points depending on the powertrain (gas or diesel) and Lincoln has different levels of trim. For example, the 42,000 points included with a new Ford gasoline-powered car would cover the first three scheduled service visits, such as the 40,000-mile service period of a 2021 Explorer. Buyers of Lincoln's premium-trim Black Label model-year 2021 vehicles receive an exclusive package that includes four scheduled service visits free of charge within the first four years, or 50,000 miles.

Hyundai and Genesis

For the original owner, Hyundai and Genesis's luxury brands offer 36,000 miles or three years of free maintenance on all 2021 models (except the Hyundai Nexo fuel cell vehicle). The extension of the free maintenance program to Hyundai badged vehicles began in February.

Jaguar

Jaguar is the best choice for free maintenance. Jaguars are covered for all scheduled maintenance for five years or 60,000 miles.

Jeep

All models of 2021 Jeep vehicles receive three scheduled maintenance visits, provided they are used within three years. Also, the Jeep Wave loyalty program offers a trip interruption benefit and three scheduled maintenance visits for all trims. The previous free services were restricted to specific trim levels.

Kia

Kia offers three years of scheduled maintenance free for its Cadenza sedans and K900 sedans. This is equivalent to 37,500 miles.

Lexus

All-new Lexus cars come with two complimentary scheduled maintenance visits up to one year or 10,000 miles.

Porsche

Volkswagen Group's performance brand offers a free first scheduled maintenance visit. This would be due within one year or 10,000 mi.

Ram

The majority of Ram pickup trucks model-year 2021 have three scheduled maintenance visits free of charge if they are used within two years. There is also a trip interruption benefit. However, this offer is only available to Ram buyers in Texas which has a highly competitive truck market.

Subaru

Subaru offers scheduled maintenance free of charge for 2021 model-year vehicles up to 24,000 miles. However, this is only available in select markets. These are mainly in Sun Belt states, where there is less competition. Subaru does not offer maintenance-free in other areas.

Toyota

Toyota vehicles are covered by two years of free maintenance or 25,000 miles.

Volkswagen

All 2021 Volkswagen models come with two years of free maintenance or 20,000 miles regularly scheduled.

Volvo

Volvo offers complimentary maintenance for three years or 30,000 miles. This is the equivalent of three visits.
